ITLS Provider Courses

Description:

imageITLS courses give the student the knowledge and hands-on skills to take better care of trauma patients. ITLS stresses rapid assessment, appropriate intervention and identification of immediate life threats. The ITLS framework for rapid, appropriate and effective trauma care is a global standard that works in any situation.

imageThe course focuses on providing optimal patient care in a team setting. Students will alternate between lecture and hands on practice, learning and practicing patient assessment, airway management, hemorrhage control, spinal motion restriction, extremity trauma, and auto extrication.

Pre-Requisites:

ITLS Provider – Basic is targeted toward students who already possess advanced first aid training (i.e. OFA-3, First Responder, Emergency Medical Responder, Advanced Wilderness First Aid, etc).

ITLS Provider – Basic is the perfect “what’s next” course for an advanced first aider, First Responder, EMR, etc who is looking to expand their trauma assessment and management skill set.

ITLS Provider – Advanced is targeted towards those professional health care providers who have training in advanced airway management, fluid resuscitation, etc.

Course Length:

16 hours (8 hours didactic, 8 hours skills based learning)

Course Materials:

The current course manual is the 8th edition ITLS for Emergency Care Providers textbook.

All course participants must have a copy of this textbook, and have completed their pre-read activities prior to their scheduled course date.

  • Extremity Trauma (including pelvic immobilization and femur traction splinting)
  • Fluid Resuscitation and Needle Decompression (Advanced courses only)

Course Completion Requirements:

  • 74% or higher on a 50 question multiple choice written exam
  • Successful completion of one practical scenario with a score of adequate or higher

Length of Certification:

Certification is valid for three years.

EMALB CME Credits:
